About The Breath People
Better human performance starts with the human.
The Breath People exists to help people and organisations understand, train and manage the physiology that sits underneath performance.
Why We Exist
Human capacity is finite. How we manage it requires consideration.
High-performance environments ask people to think clearly, make decisions and execute effectively while carrying physiological and psychological demand.
Yet performance is often treated as though the human underneath it were infinitely available.
We believe sustainable high performance requires a better understanding of state, load, regulation and recovery, and practical ways of turning that understanding into action.
TBP brings together performance physiology, training, measurement and applied research to help make that possible.
Our Belief
We are interested in performance that can be repeated, recovered from and sustained, not simply performance at any cost.
What We’re Building
Training. Visibility. Evidence.
TBP is developing a human-performance system that combines practical physiological capability with better visibility of changing human state and the evidence required to understand what actually improves performance.
Build capability.
High Performance Breath Utilisation Training develops practical physiological regulation skills for preparation, performance and recovery.
Make state visible.
Readiness measurement brings physiological, cognitive, subjective and contextual information together to help individuals better understand change over time.
Generate evidence.
Applied research tests the relationships between regulation, readiness, cognitive capacity and performance rather than assuming them.
Founder
Melina James
Melina founded The Breath People from a conviction that high-performance systems can do more to understand and support the physiology of the people operating inside them.
Her background includes RAF Officer Training, SERE instruction and military pilot flying training, alongside professional training in breath coaching and body-based practices.
That combination shaped TBP’s central question: if physiological state influences the capacity we have available under pressure, can we train regulation more deliberately, measure it more intelligently and use that information to build better performance systems?
Today, Melina leads TBP’s strategy, product development and applied performance work, working alongside specialists across science, data, technology and operational human performance.
Leadership
Built across disciplines.
TBP combines entrepreneurial, operational and commercial leadership with a wider network of scientific, technical and performance expertise.
Juliette Williams
Juliette supports the operational development of TBP, helping turn strategy into structured delivery as the organisation grows.
Hugh Griffiths
Hugh supports TBP’s financial strategy and commercial development, helping build the financial foundations required for sustainable growth.
How We Work
Performance without the theatre.
Our approach is practical, measurable and deliberately multidisciplinary.
Evidence-led
We distinguish between what is established, what we have observed and what still needs to be tested.
Operationally useful
Science only becomes useful when it can survive contact with the environments in which people actually perform.
Human-centred
Data should support people and better decisions, not reduce individuals to a score.
Built to evolve
We expect our methods and technology to change as evidence develops and better questions emerge.
Where We’re Going
Better regulation.
Better human performance.
